We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers. That’s why Texas took the national lead in allowing such deserving young minds to attend a Texas college at a resident rate. Those young minds are a part of a new generation of leaders, the doors of higher education must be open to them. The message is simple: educacion es el futuro, y si se puede. – Rick Perry 2001

But, Mr. Perry, the thing is, illegal immigrants are here illegally. No, we don’t care where the children in our schools come from. But we DO care if they are here illegally. Why must we take care of illegal immigrants and their illegal immigrant children, who go to our public tax funded schools, have to be taught in their language because their parents refuse to teach them English and they refuse to learn it, eat free or reduced price lunch funded by tax dollars, keep their illegitimate babies in taxpayer funded onsite daycare, and abuse the equipment in our schools because every thinking person knows that when you are given something that you do not earn, you do not appreciate it, all paid for by legal U.S. citizens, when they either don’t pay into the system, or don’t pay nearly their share? Please tell me, Mr. Perry, Why MUST we do this? I agree with your position on nearly every important issue, but I simply can not understand why, especially as a conservative, you have this immense soft spot for people that blatantly disregard our country’s laws by coming here illegally. No, Mr. Perry, we MUST NOT keep taking care of illegal immigrants, be they adult or children. We MUST send them home and let THEIR country take care of them.
