
Studies have showed that certain neural pathways in the brain that regulate appetite are affected by the introduction of nicotine, and although introducing nicotine into the system is not a medically sound idea, if scientists can pinpoint exactly how the appetite suppression works, other drugs can be developed that might imitate what nicotine does. Smokers on average have a BMI score several points lower than non-smokers, and generally keep the weight off for the duration of their smoking habit.
